Life is Stewardship. Stewardship is Life.
I got behind a truck on the way home from the office yesterday with the license plate, GITN BY. Oddly, he actually paid over-and-above for the personalized plate! I thought, far better as a tag than an epitaph.
For years, I have been challenging believers to see their life through the lens of stewardship. Stewardship isn’t just about money – it’s about everything.
I believe in the sovereignty of God (probably to a point that many of my colleagues are uncomfortable with), HOWEVER, I still believe in the responsibility of man. We are responsible to steward well this life we have. That means that, with God’s help, we are to make it the best it can be with what we have. ???????? ????? ??????????? ????????? ??????
If we’re NOT personally responsible to do that, then just rip the book of Proverbs right out of the Bible.
A man took a rock pile and turned it into a fabulous garden. Someone came and saw it and, not wanting the gardener to take too much credit, said, “You know, you and the good Lord have this fabulous garden here.” The gardener said, “I understand your point, but you should’ve seen it a few years ago when God had it all by Himself.”
Don’t be too shocked by that story. No one is saying God can’t do well by Himself. I imagine Eden could not have been improved upon in its initial stage. However, what happens when we just “let go”? Just grab the chips and the remote, plant yourself on the couch and don’t get up but for more chips and bathroom breaks and see how long that flies. Doing something matters. Scalable, wise “doing” produces scalable, preferable results… all reflecting on our choices to take (or not to take) action.
Here’s what I believe about life: doing just “well enough” with family, your health, your job, your whatever, is SIN. Yes, you heard me.
The wicked and lazy servant in the talent story of Matthew 25:25 was rebuked for just getting by. Remember that. Read the story—he didn’t waste what he had. He wasted the opportunity to do better with what he had. ??????? ????????? ????? ??????? ???? ??????????????
The sin is in getting the “okay” or “just good enough” from life. My challenge to you: go for excellence, go for “superior.” What could happen?
• New ministries might be started.
• New income streams might be created.
• New intimacy with the Father might be experienced.
• Lives might be changed.
“A rock pile ceases to be a rock pile the moment a single man contemplates it, bearing within him the image of a cathedral.” – Antoine De Saint-Exupery
