Go, Pinky Toe! You Matter!
You are significant. You matter.
Now, if you have self esteem issues, your flesh is screaming at you right now telling you that this Truth might apply to someone else, but not you.
But let me just lay out what God says.
“You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb….I am fearfully and wonderfully made… All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Psalm 139
Jesus said, “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends…You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit-fruit that will last.” John 15:15 & 16
“For he that touches you touches the apple of [God's] eye.” Zechariah 2:8
Do you hear that?! You are the apple of God’s eye!
But your significance is more than just endearment to God, it relates to function in His Kingdom.
In 1 Corinthians chapter 12, we are taught that we are a member of a multi-member Body of the Living Christ Jesus. There are eyes in the Body of Christ. Ears, knees and noses.
If you feel like I do sometimes, you may say to yourself, “I’m just a pinky toe in the Body. What do I really matter? What level of significance can I possibly hold?”
I remember a couple of years ago breaking my pinky toe. How embarrassing. The only bone I’ve ever broken in my life is my pinky toe! Nothing to brag about there!
But I’ll tell you this: it just about shut me down for two weeks. I preached in sock-feet for two weeks. I limped like an old war-veteran for two weeks!
That little toe was swelled up and turning three shades of purple for two weeks! It was so fat, my foot looked like it had two big toes on each side! Like little “book-ends” with all the other skinny toes in between!
But, man, did I hurt all over from that one little pinky toe’s ill.
Far more significant than I thought, that little toe. I could have said, “I don’t need you, you’re the pinky toe.” I could have said, “I don’t need you. I’ve got a spare on the other foot.” But, boy, I found out quickly the importance of one little toe.
You matter more than you might think. Maybe you’re reading this and you get it. But most don’t.
Here’s the brass tacks: You will only live to the level of significance that you see for yourself.
If you believe you’re significant, then you’ll live with vision, planning, purpose and action because you see the value you have in the Kingdom and the damage and lack in you don’t.
Don’t slack. Don’t coast. Live with vision. Take action. Move forward with God’s will for your life. It matters to the rest of us.
